GEM Hereford
GEM Hereford opened its doors in September 2023 as a specialist independent school dedicated to supporting young people with a range of special educational needs. Since then, we have grown into a nurturing and therapeutic learning community where every student is understood, valued, and empowered to thrive.
Our first site, Trinity House, has provided a calm and supportive environment where learners receive highly personalised education and care. From September 2025, we are excited to expand with the opening of an alternate provision at Hildersley Cottage. This new setting will allow us to welcome even more young people while staying true to our core values of individualised support, structured routines, and therapeutic approaches.
We’re excited about the future of Hildersley Cottage. Our hope is for it to grow from its current role as an alternative provision into a vibrant second home for GEM Hereford,a full-time campus where even more learners can thrive and succeed.

Unlike traditional school environments, both GEM Hereford sites are thoughtfully designed to feel welcoming, safe, and non-clinical. Each location features a warm and calming entrance area to help young people feel at ease from the moment they arrive. Learning takes place in small, carefully arranged classrooms that support either one-to-one teaching or small-group work, ensuring that every student receives the attention, flexibility, and consistency they need to succeed.
The facilities at both sites are purpose-built to reflect the needs, interests, and strengths of our learners. From tailored learning spaces to specialist areas that support creative, vocational, and therapeutic elements of the curriculum, every aspect of the environment is designed to promote engagement, confidence, and achievement.
Outdoor space is also a key part of our approach. Access to safe, well-maintained outdoor areas gives students valuable opportunities to regulate, explore, build social skills, and engage in physical activity. Whether it’s structured outdoor learning or time for quiet reflection, our outside environments play an essential role in supporting emotional wellbeing and holistic development.
With Trinity House and Hildersley Cottage, GEM Hereford will continue to provide high-quality, specialist education across two purpose-built sites each offering safe, well-resourced spaces where students can grow in confidence, develop life skills, and reach their full potential.
“Many of the pupils who attend this school, all of whom have special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), have had negative experiences in other settings. That is not the case here.”
